Elizabeth Robins Pennell (February 21, 1855 - February 7, 1936) was an American author. She was the wife of American artist and fellow author Joseph Pennell, whom she married in June 1884[1]. He provided the illustrations for many of her books. She, with her husband, was a friend and correspondent of James Abbott McNeill Whistler. She wrote a lengthy biography of Whistler in collaboration with her husband, as well as biographical studies of Charles Godfrey Leland, who was her uncle[2], Mary Wollstonecraft, and, after his death, her husband. Other works include travelogues and personal memoirs. She was also a contributor of art and food criticism to periodicals including the Daily Chronicle and the Pall Mall Gazette[3]. Pennell often made her contributions under the nom de plume "N. N."[4]. She died in New York City in February of 1936[1].
