The Loom of Youth
The first novel by Alec Waugh, 1898 –1981, a British novelist, the elder brother of the better-known Evelyn Waugh. “The Loom of Youth” appeared in 1917, and became a best-seller, dealing with the author’s reminiscences and meditation on his schooldays. Actually, the book attracted so much attention due to its frank account of homosexual passions between British schoolboys. The author’s aim was besides to express his negative attitude to the public school system; written strongly and naturally, with a sly sense of humor, the story appears to be a pleasant read, especially for school romance lovers.
