Uriah Smith (1832 - 1903) was a Seventh-day Adventist author and editor who worked for the Review and Herald for 50 years. Smith wrote extensively on conditional immortality and other topics. His main contribution to Adventist theology was a commentary on the prophetic Biblical books of Daniel and the Revelation. He advocated religious liberty, the abolition of slavery, and noncombatancy for Adventists. Modern Spiritualism: a Subject of Prophecy and a Sign of the Times was published in 1896. Smith shows the place spiritualism holds in psychological movements. He views spiritualism from the standpoint of prophecy, and the testimony of the Scriptures, which its true origin, nature, and tendency.
