The Canada Fund provided 118,174 RMB that piped water from a clean spring to 94 Tibetan households (421 villagers), bought 911 books for Detsa School, and 130 students were trained in Tibetan and English for 45 days. Before the project, villagers fetched water from a spring 100-500 meters away from the village, spending much time and energy. Since February 2006, every village home has had a tap in their courtyard, which is a bountiful and clean supply of water, and the school already has books and the students were trained. Villagers enthusiastically participated in the project. The villagers contributed labor, sand, stones, 6,354.50 RMB in cash and enthusiastically transported sand and stones by tractors to the water box sites. They also dug ditches for the plastic pipes and poured concrete. In total, the local labor contribution may be valued at 89,350 RMB. This project is a wonderful testament to the Canada Fund’s good will and has made a powerful positive difference in the lives of local Zhengga villagers.
