Trends in telephone service 2008

Book cover
Trends in Telephone Service is published by the Industry Analysis and Technology Division of the Federal Communication Commissionâs Wireline Competition Bureau. This report is designed to provide answers to some of the most frequently asked questions about the telephone industry -- questions asked by consumers, members of Congress, other government agencies, telecommunications carriers, and members of the business and academic communities. To this end, the report contains summary information about the size, growth, and development of the telephone industry, including data on market shares, minutes of calling, number of lines, and telephone subscribership. The report also provides information about access charges, advanced telecommunications, consumer expenditures for service, infrastructure, international telephone traffic, local telephone competition, telephone rates and price changes, toll service providers, and universal service support. Trends in Telephone Service summarizes a variety of information contained in other reports that are published periodically by the Industry Analysis and Technology Division. In most cases, these other reports provide more detailed information than that provided here. These reports can be accessed from the Wireline Competition Bureau Statistical Reports Internet site, at www.fcc.gov/wcb/stats. Trends are online 1998 - present at http://www.fcc.gov/wcb/iatd/trends.html. See page 89 of the PDF file to see a listing of wireless phone subscribers by state from 2001-2007. Alaska had 431,653 subscribers in 2007. Also has information on land lines, long distance and more.
