Harry Leon Wilson, the most successful author-humorist in pre-war America. His plays were staged on Broadway and novels were reprinted many times, each of them being adapted for film and television. He wasn’t one of the greatest masters of English prose, did not go up to philosophical meditation, though was inimitable in his presentation of an amusing, charming life of provincial America. His hero is a “small” ridiculous person, resembling a comic actor of silent movies. Clearly and humorously, he tells a story of life, whether it is a caricature or a touching, or sometimes sad, tale.
