30 Sep 2010 02:54:55 The murder of a gossip columnist with dirt on practically everyone forces homicide detective Nikki Heat to work with journalist and former boyfriend Jameson Rook in "Naked Heat," Richard Castle's latest mystery.
When Heat and her team arrive at the murder scene to start the investigation, she is shocked to see Rook is already there. She hasn't seen him since he wrote an article about her, turning her into the latest celebrity icon. Rook was working on a story on the victim, Cassidy Towne, and he found her body. Since he has information about Towne's numerous enemies, Heat finds herself reluctantly working with him again.
The chemistry between Heat and Rook threatens to smother the investigation, even as the body count continues to grow and clues point to very prominent individuals in New York City. Pretty much every suspect wanted Towne dead, and digging through the back story puts a bulls-eye on Heat and Rook's backs. Can they work out their differences and solve the murder before they both end up as victims?
On ABC's "Castle," author Richard Castle works with homicide detective Kate Beckett to solve crimes. Castle sees Beckett as his muse and has based the novels he writes on the show on her and their cases. She hates having a character based on her, but she reluctantly accepts her fame because of her work partnership with Castle and her admiration for his writing.
The book has a lot of winks to the side that will delight fans of the TV series. The real-life writer of this mystery had the hard task of creating a story that would appeal both to fans of the TV series and those who have never watched a minute of the show. It's successful on both counts. The characters and story line shine like the best mysteries in the genre, and TV watchers will discover what reads like a lost episode of the show.
