the miller of angibault

Book cover
One of the most notable works by Amantine Aurore Lucile Dupin, best known by her pseudonym George Sand. This is a story of a noble miller Luis, as well as of intrusion of capital into the life of country people. The works of George Sand expressed love for freedom and hatred for tyranny, blame of any exploitation of a man, and poeticized toiler-heroes. Using mainly her richest imagination, and folk motives, Sand set herself certain pedagogical objects. She wanted to develop human feeling of good, unselfishness, selflessness and respect for common people. Her characters are notable for their love of nature, rich and noble inner world - innocent and lofty. They believe in wonder, the whole world being a miracle for them.
