from manassas to appomattox memoirs of the civil war in america

Book cover
This book is devoted to the events of the Civil War in America and the role of certain outstanding figures in it. The author himself took an active part in this war serving as a general and being a very controversial figure of this period. Historians have not agreed about his influence on the result of battles. Some researchers are sure that he should be blamed for the win of the Union near Gettysburg. According to other sources Longstreet had wonderful suggestions about army actions but Lee did not want to use them. Nevertheless, it is difficult to reduce the general's role in the war. He was often stubborn but was very devoted to Robert E. Lee and was one of the best of his officers. Longstreet took part in many battles, particularly at Antietam, Chickamauga, and the Wilderness, showing his courage. Thus, all this makes his memories very valuable and interesting for professional historians studying this period and all people who like history and fascinating adventures of brave soldiers and officers in whose hands there was the fate of future generations.
