An English writer, poet, essayist and thinker, Gilbert Keith Chesterton was a master of different genres, beginning with detective stories to the biographies. His novels are distinguished by the captivity and paradoxicality of his thought.
His excellent half-parody of the detective story, The Club of Queer Trades, was the light of the day in 1905. It is a perfect example of Chesterton’s unusual style of writing. The reader will follow the adventures of an eccentric detective Basil Grant, who deals with a lethal message written in pansies, an insane professor, country vicars and numerous puzzling situations.
