Marked (House of Night Series #1)

Book cover
"Marked" is the first book in the series written by Kristin Cast. Get into the dark, magical and mystical world of The House of Night, a world that is very similar our own. The only difference is that here always have lived vampires. Sixteen-year-old Zoey Redbird, a good smart, hardworking, and moral girl, has just been Marked as a young and inexperienced vampire and joins the House of Night, a school where she will train to become an adult vampire. To Zoey, being marked is a real blessing, though she's scared at first. That is, if she makes it through the Change. And not all the Marked manage to do that. Zoey has never fit into the world of humans and has always felt she is destined for something else. Her grandmother, a descendant of the Cherokee, has always provide her emotional support, and it is she who takes the girl to her new school. But even there the teen stands apart from the others. Starting new life is quite difficult, especially when Zoey realizes that all her friends are far away, and on top of that, Zoey is no average fledgling. She has been chosen as special by the vampire Goddess Nyx. Zoey understands that she has amazing powers, but along with her powers come bloodlust and an unfortunate ability to Imprint her ex-boyfriend, who is a simple human. To add to her stress, she is not the only fledgling at the House of Night with special powers. When she discovers that the leader of the Dark Daughters (who is a beautiful blonde bully with fabulous manicure and no conscience. She hasn't an ounce of subtlety in her body and the first words she says to Zoey are "I'm in charge here, get in my way and I will hurt you." Not that weak enemy, right?), the school's most elite group, is misusing her Goddess-given gifts, Zoey must look deep within herself for the courage to embrace her destiny--with a little help from her new vampire friends.
You will be definitely captured by Zoey's world and will long to see how her special spiritualism develops over time. This book also leaves enough unanswered questions that readers are drawn to find out more. This is a book for teenagers, they like no one else can understand all the problems the main heroine is going through, her feelings and emotions. Certainly, to adults Zoey’s problems might seem not problems at all (finding out she's got an extreme power, understanding that she is not the one who is so unique), but this book wasn't written for them. "˜Marked" is light, fast, easy, and fun. At the House of Night, Zoey finds true love, friends, and loyalty as well as mistrust and deceit. She realizes that all is not right in the vampire world and that the problems she thought she left behind still exist. The story moves quickly and purposely leaves many unresolved issues. The book will be great for fans of the occult and mysteries.
