After Waterloo: Reminiscences of European Travel 1815-1819

Book cover
Major Frye wrote this manuscript in the form of letters. It is possible that the receiver of the letters did not exist and that Frye used the epistolary form to write his memoirs. Frye was born in 1784 and was educated at Eton. In 1799, Frye took part in the British Expedition to Holland. In 1801 he was in Egypt with Lord Abercrombie's army and received a medal for war service. Frye was an admirer of Napoleon and hated the Tory regime, which brought about Napoleon's downfall. Frye's reminiscences of this time and what was happening in France are a useful addition to the history of Europe.
