a treatise on electricity and magnetism volume 2

The second volume of A Treatise on Electricity and Magnetism contains the continuation of an important research conducted in physics as a science. It focuses on the theory of electromagnetism developed and improved by Maxwell as well as general positions of field theory. Though being written more than a century ago, the book is a wonderful reference for students and their teachers as the author possessed great knowledge in this part of physics. Besides, the book is not very complicated, it is created with the usage of pretty simple vocabulary so it is quite easy to understand. Not without reason A Treatise on Electricity and Magnetism is believed to be a real masterpiece among other works devoted to physics.

landscape painting

If you're interested in landscape painting, there can’t be a book better than this one. Harrison lived to see the French impressionists blossom, and lived to see them re-evaluate their spot and dash system, and eventually shed it. He saw the American painters harvest the best of what the French discovered, and take landscape painting much farther. And he describes every bit of it. His explanation of refraction, vibration, and other terms are just perfect, and the chapter on composition is marvelous! The book would be necessary for amateurs interested in painting and professionals devoting their lives to painting.

principles of digital communication and coding

The co-authors of Principles of Digital Communication and Coding are famous professionals who devoted their whole lives to studying digital communications. Even though the research work was created several decades ago (this is 1979 edition), its text is still considered classical and being extremely helpful for all students of this particular field as well as everyone who is interested in degital communications and wants to broad his/her knowledge in communications theory. The book is focused on such topics as channels, links, terminals, modems, or networks and their role in transmitting and receiving digital messages.

the theory of heat radiation

In 1900 Max Planck introduced a quantum constant into his mathematical expression for the energy distribution of blackbody radiation. This book is a revolution in 20th century physics. The first fifty pages examine heat radiation from the perspective of classical optics, including topics like radiation at thermodynamic equilibrium, Kirchhoff's law, and blackbody radiation. The next fifty pages, deductions from electrodynamics and thermodynamics, were substantially more mathematical. Planck discussed the Stefan-Boltzmann law of radiation and the Wien displacement law in detail as well as spectral distribution of energy radiation. Section III presents a general procedure for calculating entropy and introduces his quantum hypothesis. This book is a great help for students studying physics, for teachers and for anyone interested in this science.

matter and motion

This is a study of Newtonian dynamics made by James Clerk Maxwell in his best traditions of research and experiment. Matter and Motion is often recognized as one of the best introductions to the study of dynamics. While the first chapters are devoted to the motion of particles, the last chapters are focused on the motion of whole systems. Maxwell also includes his chapter called "On the Equation of Motion of a Connected System" from Volume II of Electricity and Magnetism to Matter and Motion. Besides, the study of relativity motion is also included in this thorough guide into dynamics.

a philosophical essay on probabilities

Laplace wrote this book in 1816. If you've ever worked on problems like "here are two boxes, A and B, the first containing four white and two black balls ..." you'll be interested to know these problems all go back to this book. Laplace said "Probability theory is nothing but common sense reduced to calculation", and he shows it here. There is an interesting discussion of how many judges should be assigned to a case, and what proportion of them should be required to vote guilty for a guilty verdict to be returned in the book. Laplace shows how to minimize expected loss on this problem.
