Book cover
“Chicot the Jester”, also known by the title “La Dame de Monsoreau” is a romance, set in the court of King Henri III. Written by Alexandre Dumas, a French writer of the 19th century, which hardly needs to be introduced, the novel was published in 1846.
The protagonist, Bussy d'Amboise falls in love with a lady, who has a very jealous husband. Historical events described so brilliantly and convincingly, serve as a background for a complicated love intrigue. The author opposes generosity, sincerity and faithfulness of the gallant Count de Bussy and his beloved Diana to depravity and hypocrisy of the court.
“La Dame de Monsoreau” became the second novel of a trilogy, which includes “La Reine Margot” (1845) and “The Forty-Five Guardsmen” (1847).
