For the novel, titled “The Young Carthaginian” G. A. Henty chose the subject of the struggle of the Carthaginians and the Romans. Being a master of the historical adventure, he skillfully combined fiction with an accurate context of history. A fictional hero, Marchus, a kinsman of the famous Hannibal, joins him on the Carthaginian campaign against Rome.
This book can serve a rich source of knowledge about this struggle for the empire of the world, the Punic Wars and the political climate in which they took place, as wall as of the manners, customs, religion, and politics of Carthage. A perfect commencement to further acquaintance with history.
