A novel by Nathaniel Hawthorne, an American novelist and short story writer of the 19th century. Hawthorne spent a year and a half in Italy, gathering materials for this work. Thus, detailed descriptions of Italian sculpture, painting, architecture of Ancient Rome and other point of interest take here a considerable place.
The plot of the “The Marble Faun” is based on a motive of the influence of the committed crime on the following life of the criminal-character.
A young man, very handsome but primitive, being in love, murders a stranger, who chased his beloved. The emotional experience, evoked by the crime - guilty conscience, fear and remorse – stimulate his further spiritual growth.
