Jonas had been thinking already about teaching Lily. There was talk about changing the rule and giving the bicycles at an earlier age. A committee was studying the idea. When something went to a committee for study, the people always joked about it. They said that the committee members would become Elders by the time the rule change was made. Rules were very hard to change. Sometimes, if it was a very important rule ...

10/10
This book is designed to make you think, to make you take a second look at your life and what you know. This book proves how important history is and how we can learn from our mistakes. Lois Lowry is a literary genius. She can take the most difficult subject and put it simply enough so that everyone can benefit from her wisdom.

I was also assigned to read this book in elementary school. I loved it then and I still love it now, 17 years later. I think this book is a good warning to us all. At some point in everyone's lives they all wish everyone could just be exactly how they want them to be. At first, it sounds like a great plan, but The Giver demonstrates very effectively why this plan, although effective, is so far from the best choice. We need agency to find out who we are; and we grow stronger with each choice we make. I am now reading this book to my 8 and 10 year old nieces. It's sparked some great discussions!

I do not like this book. It is too confusing, you don't understand what is happening or what they are talking about. I really just do not recommend this at all !

I began to see the first color, you told me that the beginning had been different for you. But that I wouldn't understand.
