DarkFever

by Karen Marie Moning

Drawing on elements from the paranormal world that bestseller Moning (Spell of the Highlander) created in her earlier romances, this suspense novel takes readers on a darker journey, one dominated by the search for a powerful Faery magic and bereft of the romantic magic Moning's fans have come to expect. When MacKayla Lane, an ordinary young woman, travels to Ireland to track down her sister's murderer, she is sucked into an extraordinary world filled with ancient secrets, vampires, assorted Fae nasties and other tough-to-kill beings. In the process, Mac learns of her own unusual talents and finds an unlikely mentor in the wealthy and mysterious Jericho Barrons. Moning's newest foray contains suspense and plenty of setup. Indeed, this reads like a fragment of a larger story, an introduction to character and place that, while entertaining, skims the surface. But it's a compelling world filled with mystery and vivid characters, and this, combined with the hint of sparks between Jericho and Mac, will stoke readers' fervor for Bloodfever, the next installment.

...no idea things had gone so far." He rubbed his jaw, looking displeased with the turn of events. I squinted. "What's that on your hand, Barrons? Blood?" He started, glanced at me, then at his hand. "Ah yes," he said, as if remembering, "I was out for a walk. There was a badly injured dog in the street. I returned it to its owner's shop to die." "Oh." Would wonders never cease. He seemed more the type to put it out of its misery where it lay, perhaps with a sharp twist of the neck or a well-placed kick, not take into account the human factor. I would later discover that my gut instinct was right; there'd been no dog that night. The blood on his hand was human. "So what is this Gray Man?" "What you thought it was. It selects the loveliest humans it can find and steals their beauty bit by bit until nothing is left." "Why?" He shrugged. "Why not? It is an Unseelie. They require neither rhyme nor reason. They are the Dark Ones. The old tales say the Gray Man is so ugly that even his...

This series os amazing
At first i was not going to read it the thought of a series about faeries made me cringe but I'm happy I went ahead and read it. The authors style of writing is what really pulled me in she made the story actually interesting and unique. This is a must read for all fantasy lovers.

I was quite surprised by this book. It's not my usual take on the whole fae genre but it did keep me entranced.

Com/abclit. Html CHAPTER THIRTEEN "Well, that was a pure waste of time, " Barrons growled as we picked our way back through the antique furnishings and all-too-modern morals of Malluc's house. I didn't say anything. The Unseelie Rhino-boys were right behind us, making sure we left. "The Master" was not at all happy with us. Once he'd dismissed his guards, Malluc had simply pretended not to know what Barrons was talking about, acting as if he'd never heard of theSinsar Dubh before, even though a blind man could see that not only had he, but he knew something about it that disturbed him deeply. He and Barrons had gotten into a pissing match, trading barbs and insults, and within moments, they'd completely forgotten about me.
